The Winter Sports & Parasports category of the 2nd SEISA Olympics was held online!

カテゴリー:SEISA NEWS(EN)

The SEISA Olympics is a Simultaneous Class among 6,000 junior and senior high school students from across the country to learn and compete in more than 10 categories including sports, novels, literature, speech, music, dance, cooking, traditional events, ekiden relay races, and communication competitions.

The Winter Sports and the Para Sports Categories were held at the SEISA Sapporo Momiji Campus for the first time in 2020 of the various sections held throughout the year. Tug-of-war and snowball fights were held in the snow, taking advantage of Hokkaido's climate and other aspects of place culture, while wheelchair rugby and sit- skiing will become the standard para-sports in the future. It was an exciting day with an inventive programme in which everyone could participate.

In view of the impact of COVID-19, this year's event was held online on Thursday, January 14, 2021. This year's games and competitions were based on the previous year's event, but also included new and unique activities that could only be done online, based on the students' ideas. The total number of games was 20! Students from SEISA schools in Hokkaido, Sendai, Tokyo, Shizuoka, Osaka and Okinawa competed against each other. As a result, 317 competitors participated and 651 online spectators were counted.

SEISA Kokusai High School Okinawa, which is located in the opposite climate to Hokkaido, won the "Winter Fashion Coordination Contest". It was very impressed by the many interesting and unique competitions and games that were held online such as the "Proposal for a New Universal Sports" Presentation Contest using ZOOM.

The SEISA Olympics is based on the concept of "learning the real thing" as well as "Doing, Seeing and Supporting". The students will learn by participating in the competitions, by watching the competitions, cheering on their friends, and by supporting the competitions and events as student staff. We SEISA value all of them. This year's event was also supported by a student staff team from SEISA Kokusai High School Hachioji, 1,000 km away from Hokkaido, who are well known for the SAAB program.

"Doing, Seeing and Supporting" is the very structure of society. SEISA emphasizes the importance of creating a "society" at all times, including classes, events, and other activities. Whether online or in real life, the most important fact is to interact with each other. We will continue to place importance on creating an environment full of opportunities for people to shine in situations in which they are good at, or to casually participate in activities that will lead to lifelong jobs.

SEISA Olympics Winter Sports and Para Sports Categories will be held next year again. Please look forward to it!
