The universe extends farther than our eyes and minds can grasp, and we are a small part of it. We imagine. From the distant past to the present and far into the future. The expanse of time and space is manifested in the various phenomena that occur around us every day. We see, we know, we ask "Why? How? SEISA Astronomy Club is a place where we can see, know, and think about the universe together.
The SEISA Astronomy Club, which started in April 2021, will hold not only events for members but also "Sky Classes" open to the public. On May 26 (Wed.), 2021, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., on the same day that the total lunar eclipse was broadcasted by various media, the first "Sky Class" of this year was held online, from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south. The event was attended by 95 people, the largest number ever, including not only SEISA Astronomy Club members but also the general public.
From the main venue, SEISA Shonan Oiso Campus (Kanagawa), Dr. Gan (visiting researcher and curator, SEISA University; former director, Hiratsuka Museum) delivered a live report and commentary to the nation. From junior high school students to high school students, graduates, and fathers of the father's group, we received messages such as "I can see it in Hokkaido!” "It's nice to see," "I can't see it in Yokohama! I’m jealous.” "I can see it in Naha!" It was a festive time, and we spent 90 minutes learning about space together.
Unfortunately, we were not able to see the total lunar eclipse in Kanagawa, the main venue, but we all enjoyed and shared the excitement of the words and the indescribable sense of realism that our friends from all over Japan shared with us while looking at the same night sky at the same time. In the future, we will further enhance the program so that it can be broadcasted from all over the country.
Let's make space more accessible! SEISA Astronomy Club is waiting for you to join (free of charge)!
