The Culmination of Three Years of AIJIRO Ice Cream - Connecting to the Community
In 2018, in order to solve the problem of Shizuoka's declining population, which is not expected to increase naturally, we made a presentation and decided to commercialize the product with the cooperation of Yaizu City Hall, Kanetsu Foods, and Minato-ya. In order to let as many people as possible know about the product, presentations were made at JA Ooigawa (Yaizu City and Fujieda City) and JA Shizuoka in 2019, and it was decided that the product would be sold at an event held at JA's directly managed sales office in March 2020.
However, due to the spread of the new COVID-19 infection, the event was cancelled due to a series of school closures and the first declaration of a state of emergency...everything was postponed.
We were stuck in a period of inactivity, which allowed us to think about what would be the best way to continue producing and selling AIJIRO ice cream in the future.
As a "way to connect with the community," we gave a presentation on our product proposal at "LA PALETTE," a gelato specialty store in the Mochimune district of Suruga-ku, Shizuoka City, in November 2020. The presentation was attended by the president of CSA Real Estate, the parent company of LA PALETTE, and the decision to commercialize the product was made immediately, which was both a delight and a surprise.
It was a day of both joy and surprise, as the students' passion for Shizuoka and their hometown and the president of CSA Real Estate's passion for the development of the Mochimune area were in sync, and the students were able to incorporate new perspectives while respecting the history and traditions of the local area.
On March 20, 2021, "AIJIRO Ice Cream" was reborn as "AIJIRO Miso Gelato" by "LA PALETTE" and started to be sold in stores. In May, we received good news from the person in charge of the gelato: "It has been so popular that we have decided to make it a regular product.
One of the characteristics of SEISA's study is to "solve social issues", and by incorporating PBL (Problem Based Learning) methods learned from SEISA University, students were able to interact with various people in the local community, learn about the local area, and leave their three years of learning (input) as a product (output). We are very grateful for your understanding and support. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the understanding and cooperation of so many people.
We would like to continue to cherish the experience of those who live there, sharing themes that need to be solved, sharing wisdom, and cooperating with each other, as a learning experience that will support us throughout our lives.
And now, "What shall we challenge next? The students have started to search for a new theme.
