In the summer of 2021, SEISA Hakone Campus became the pre-camping site for Bhutanese Olympians and Paralympians participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
While the staff of SEISA Hakone Campus, SKY Project team including Kanagawa Prefecture and Hakone Town, local community members provided various supports to prepare for the Olympic and Paralympic games, Bhutanese staff and students of SEISA showed great hospitality. There were many occasions for exchange with junior high and high school students of SEISA, faculty and staff who are involved with them on a daily basis. Especially for the students who participated in the program, it was a month-long experience of a lifetime.
This was also a memorable event for Bhutan, as it was the country's first appearance in the Paralympic Games. It was a great honor for SEISA to help Bhutan turn a new page in its history.
Sakura (Fuji cherry) tree was planted as a commemorative to preserve and pass on the memory of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games accomplished in spite of various difficulties and restrictions in the midst of the COVID-19 disaster in the summer of 2021. The commemorative signboard was installed with the cooperation of Hakone municipals. This cherry tree is a proof of the friendship between Bhutan, Japan, Kanagawa prefecture and SEISA. We will continue to work together for the goal of realizing Kyosei society (society where all the people live in harmony) in the world, cherishing every relationship we have with each other.
